In 1999 Maureen took her first yoga class and at that moment, knew that she wanted to teach. Her love of yoga took her to her first yoga teacher training in 2004 with Smiling Dog Yoga, and from there started teaching in the local gyms and fitness clubs in Orlando. But there was more that she wanted to learn and it led her to India in 2007 where she went to study at the Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore. Since that first trip, she has returned to Mysore 6 more times to continue her studies in Yoga, Sanskrit, Philosophical Texts, and Ayurveda. In 2016, she received her Authorization to teach Ashtanga Yoga, as permitted by the government of India.
In addition to her ongoing studies in India and abroad, Maureen is also a 500 Hour Yoga Educator through Yoga Alliance and hosts 200 & 300-hour yoga teacher trainings. In 2021 she completed her 300 Hour Meditation training and leads online meditation classes for corporate events.
Maureen’s approach to asana as described by students is “soft yet strong”. As she encourages her students to explore the boundaries of their bodies and minds through ease and grace. Her philosophy towards yoga is that with breath, focus, and a belief in yourself, you can achieve great things. Celebrate the small wins in life, and come to your mat each day and watch how much growth occurs in that one hour you spend working on yourself.
